Welcome to my very first Flash Five!
After the success of my weekly positivity posts, Five Things That Made Me Smile This Week, I’d like to introduce you to a brand-new series – Flash Five. Each week, I’m going to share five of my favourite things with you all. These can be anything from food, drink, movies, music, books, animals; you name it! The trick is these posts will be snappy; a quick glimpse into my heart. So, let’s get started with my favourite Disney movies!
5) The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Featuring one of my favourite Disney villains of all time, Judge Frollo, The Hunchback of Notre Dame just makes the cut at number five. Esmeralda was one of my favourite Barbie dolls growing up, so she holds a special place in my heart! This movie also features loads of great songs like “Hellfire” and “God Help the Outcasts”. Despite being released in 1996 when I was the tender age of 5, it’s still one of Disney’s finest films.
4) Monsters, Inc.
Was there anybody that didn’t fall in love with Boo when they saw this? Monsters, Inc. is such a heartwarming film on so many levels. From watching Sulley give everything for Boo to Mike learning to love her too, I defy you not to feel all fuzzy inside after watching this. The overall message that laughter is more powerful than fear sums Disney up completely. I break into “Put that thing back where it came from or so help me!” more often than I care to admit!
Pocahontas has only been slightly tainted after learning Mel Gibson voiced John Smith… Otherwise, there’s so much to love about this movie. The sidekicks Meeko, Flit and Percy are equally adorable, while I secretly wish I had my very own Grandmother Willow to confide in when I’m feeling lost. Pocahontas undoubtedly features some of the most iconic Disney songs from “Just Around the Riverbend” to “Colours of the Wind”, which make it one of my faves.
2) Toy Story 2
While Toy Story is one the greatest Disney movies ever made, it was the introduction of Jessie, Bullseye and co. that stole my heart. I cry every single time I hear “When She Loved Me” (Sarah McLachlan, you crush me). Toy Story 2 is one of the rare occasions where the sequel is, in my opinion, better than the first. From the loveable characters to the wonderful story, I never tire of watching this movie.
There are so many reasons why Mulan is my ultimate Disney movie. For one, it contains my favourite song from any soundtrack, “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” – yes, I know all the words and who sings each part! Second, Mulan is an absolute badass, feminist icon; fearless, loyal and inspiring. Third, Mushu is my favourite sidekick and the star of many a GIF sent at my work. Forever my first choice, Mulan is my favourite Disney movie without fail.
